Samantha Metcalfe

Samantha is a Natural History Illustrator who finds inspiration in the unique biodiversity of the Australian bush. Working primarily in colour pencil, her realistic and detailed illustrations often focus on capturing Australia’s native flora and fauna. Samantha has illustrated several children’s picture books including The Voyage of Whale and Calf (written by Dr Vanessa Pirotta, CSIRO Publishing 2022), Caring for Country (written by Emily Bridgeman, Little Steps Publishing 2021), A Rainbow of Feathers (written by Jenny Gahan, Little Steps Publishing 2020) and A Land Down Under (written by Maggie May Gordon, Little Steps Publishing 2020). Her first illustrated book, Carmichael’s Journey (written by Shelly Fussell, Little Steps Publishing 2018) was shortlisted for the 2019 Children’s Book Council of Australia Award for New Illustrator.
